CABLE — Champaign County crews closed the bridge near Cable overnight for resurfacing, a move engineers insisted was unrelated to midnight folklore involving stalled cars, crying babies, and train whistles.
Local amateur ghost-tour operators said they would "pivot to Evergreen Cemetery" until the bridge reopened.
"The dead don't need fresh tar," one guide said. "The living do."
