NORTH LEWISBURG — A youth soccer coach emailed parents an “urgent team meeting” that turned out to be entirely about who forgot snack duty and whether juice boxes count as hydration or chaos, in a chat full of Cardinals parents.

“We’re 1–6,” one parent whispered outside a field near town. “I thought this was about the season.”

It was not about the season. It was about a spreadsheet, a rotation, and a mother who brought cupcakes with nuts “as a surprise” after a stop at a place on the way from Brush Lake Road.

The children played tag in the parking lot, free and unburdened by logistics.
