MECHANICSBURG — Officials made much of a new downtown bench this week that cost more conversation than money and now sits in a location optimized for watching traffic on Main Street and regretting not bringing a drink from Simple Coffee Co.
“This is for the people,” said a council member near the 18 N. Main offices, as two people walked past without sitting on their way to The Mercantile.
The bench already has a small bag of trash under it, which historians say means it has been fully accepted by the community.
