CABLE — A rural Champaign County man defended his recycling technique this week after a hauler left a note that officials called “the yellow sticker of shame” on a route off Mutual-Union Road.

“If it’s hard, it goes in recycling,” he said. “If it’s soft, trash. That’s science.”

When asked about the greasy box from a Urbana takeout run, the empty jug, and what appeared to be a garden hose, he said the system was “overcomplicated by people with clipboards in the county seat.”

Neighbors reported he is similarly creative with burn-pile eligibility behind the corn toward Rosewood.
