MECHANICSBURG — Local resident Tom Gable opened his day by telling a clerk it was going to be a hot one, then repeated the observation to a mail carrier on Main Street, a neighbor on Sandusky, two coworkers, a stranger outside Simple Coffee Co., and finally his wife, who asked if he thought she had windows.
“I’m just saying,” Gable explained, “you can feel it coming off the pavement by Frosty’s.”
Meteorologists confirmed it was, in fact, summer in Champaign County, and that Gable’s reporting was redundant but emotionally necessary.
