URBANA — Customers running errands near Monument Square reported being unable to finish a simple hardware stop Saturday after a man blocked the aisle to explain, in detail, how his zero-turn “handles like a dream” on a place off US-68 and also “scared the wife the first time.”

“You can do donuts if you want,” he said, to a teenager who had asked only where the WD-40 was.

Store employees said the man is not on payroll but functions as an unpaid seasonal exhibit from May through September, same as the guy who corrects parking around the Man on the Monument.
