MECHANICSBURG — In what neighbors described as a “quiet flex,” Todd Brenneman finished mowing his road ditch at 7:14 a.m. Saturday — a full 11 minutes before the guy across the township road even opened his garage.
“He can keep his zero-turn,” Brenneman said, wiping dew off a 2009 John Deere. “I’ve got commitment.”
The informal ditch race has no trophy, rules, or governing body, though both parties insist the other started it in 2019 somewhere off the US-36 corridor.
Brenneman’s wife, Kim, confirmed the victory breakfast was biscuits and gravy “with an unnecessary amount of pride,” possibly involving a later coffee stop on Main Street.
